Mepkin Abbey || Moncks Corner, SC

It was such a such a beautiful overcast day in Charleston today that we just had to get out and explore a little. Over the past month that we have been here the humidity has been incredibly low, which is not at all what we had been expecting, and we sure aren't complaining. Actually, the weather in general has been absolutely perfect the past two weeks. The heavy rains and flooding though have brought a nasty mass of mosquitos to the area so we lather up in bug spray every time we leave the house...except today, of course. 

I have a photo session scheduled for next week and I've been scouting out all kinds of new locations and trying to get the feel of this new Southern Scenery. It is exceptionally green here and there are thick forests and trees every where you look, but we have certainly been missing those big majestic mountains back home. And I do have to admit, I had never considered the drooping moss covered trees and mosquito infested swamps of the south to be all that picturesque, until we drove out to Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner. It is the most serene, peaceful garden and monk monastery nestled way back into the woods. I basically just captured the scenery since I was testing lighting and backdrops for photos, but the grounds were filled with all sorts of beautiful statues and elegant brick walls and pathways. We only stayed for a few minutes because of the bugs, but it was totally rejuvenating. Photography has brought me to notice so much beauty in my surroundings no matter where I am, and I am so grateful for that. 

And then there's that sweet thing, hanging out the side of our fancy new Chevy Colorado! We love being able to take Libby along with us everywhere, and I think she loves it even more. We attach her leash to the bed and she pokes her little head out and tries to eat the wind.  She's just perfect. We love her.
